Massachusetts Bottom Fishing Charters: Haddock Fishing, Cod Fishing, Pollock, Deep Sea Fishing

Bottom Fishing Charters:
Haddock Fishing, Cod Fishing, Pollock Fishing
Trip Length: 10hr or 8hr booking required
Time of year:
Bottom fishing for haddock, cod, pollock, red fish, cusk, and whiting is good all season. We typically do the majority of our bottom fishing between mid-May and end of June which seems to be the prime time however you can catch them year round. There are instances that we can do a little bottom fishing while fishing for other species, for example shark fishing charters.
What to expect:
We leave early in the morning for almost all deep sea fishing charters. The bite is best at first light however you can catch fish any time during the day. We bring bait (generally clams) and have artificial jigs and teasers ready as well.
It is a lot of dropping and reeling since we are fishing the bottom. Generally we are in 70-300 ft of water fishing with 12-24 ounces of lead or jigs. We focus on catching meat fish on these adventures so you can fill your freezer.
Haddock fishing we are generally using clams, cod fishing and pollock fishing we are generally using jigs and teasers.
We work very hard to find the best bottom fishing bite available within our charter time frame. We typically fish smaller conventional reels with 65lb braid provided by Penn Fishing, with a hi-lo rig with either bait, teasers, or a combination. It is not uncommon to see whales, dolphins, or sharks on these trips. We usually have a shark rod ready incase we have a visitor. Check out our shark charters if you want to target one!
Species typically caught:
Haddock, Cod, Pollock, Red Fish, Whiting, Cusk, Wolf Fish, Conger Eel, Sea Robin, Mud hake, and more. We are using hi-lo rigs, jigs, teasers, and bait – so any type of bottom fish can bite!
Daily Bag limit:
Limits change every year. Please call to confirm. Haddock fishing: 15 per person over 18 inches; Cod fishing: 1 per person over 23 inches depending on time of year (majority of the year it has been closed); Pollock: over 19 inches; call for more information. If we reach other limit on haddock early in the day we may decide to go home early if we are having trouble catching others species of edible fish.
What to expect on a Bottom Fishing Charter with Mass Bay Guides?
10 hr Full Day Bottom fishing charters – we will be leaving the dock early in the morning, typically in the dark, and returning around 3-4pm depending on our daily bag limit. We travel an average of 20 miles offshore (or wherever the best bite is that we can reach) and either fish with clams or jig with artificials. We can target more than one area on a 10hr trip to increase the odds of bringing home lots of meat. A lot of times we can put a shark rod or tuna rod out during a full day bottom fishing trip. Book!
8 hr 3/4 Day Bottom fishing charters – we will be leaving the dock early in the morning, typically in the dark, and returning around 2pm depending on our daily bag limit. We travel an average of 12 miles offshore and either fish with clams or jig with artificial lures. We sometimes can target more than one area depending on distance due to time constraints.. Pricing and Booking!
The Haddock we catch are generally around 17-25 inches. Cod are typically 20-35 inches. Pollock are usually between 15-35 inches. Depending on what we are allowed to keep and what time of year it is, we will try our best to put you on the best available pile of fish to bring home the most meat. If you are just trying to “catch fish” and don’t want to go after anything very large, bottom fishing haddock, cod, pollock is the best trip.
